Two clients can come to us with equally clear goals and equally reasonable expectations, and still end up on very different timelines. Our search comes down to where they live, what stage of life they're in, and what matters most to them in a partner, and all three of those shift the size of the pool we're working from.
What Changes the Timeline
Location plays a big role in how long a search takes. A search based in a major city with a large, active pool of professionals in a similar age range moves differently than a search based somewhere smaller, or somewhere with a very specific concentration of the kind of person a client is hoping to meet. Where you are in life matters too, someone in their 30’s looking to date within a broad age range is working generally working with a larger pool than someone with a narrower timeline or a more specific set of life circumstances they need a partner to already understand, whether that's wanting someone who's already been married before, someone who's also raising kids, or someone at a similar point in their career who understands the hours it demands.
And then there's the client's own criteria, we take all of your preferences and dealbreakers seriously. A firm requirement around faith, or wanting someone who's already raised children, or needing someone open to relocating, those are legitimate parts of a search, not obstacles. They also mean we're drawing from a smaller slice of the world, and reaching the right person inside that slice takes time.

This Isn't About Being Difficult
We want to be direct about something, A longer search never means a client is asking for too much or being unreasonable. It means the specific, well-considered life someone's building requires us to look further and work harder to find someone who fits into it well. We'd rather spend the time it takes to find the right match for someone than rush a client into something that fits the timeline better than it fits them. A fast search that ends with a mediocre match isn't a success by our measure, even if it looks efficient on paper.
What This Looks Like in Real Terms
What this looks like in real terms varies quite a bit from client to client. A search centered in one major city, with a client open to a fairly broad age range, might move at a pace where new matches are coming in within the first few weeks. A search built around someone who needs to stay in a smaller market, who has a narrower age range in mind, and who's looking for a partner with a specific background or belief system, moves at a different pace, sometimes stretching outreach across neighboring cities to make sure we are presenting matches to you that will fit into your life. Neither client is doing anything wrong. The pool one of them is realistically working from is simply smaller from the start.
When a pool is smaller, the work shifts. We're not just pulling from people who are already actively looking. We're reaching out to people who weren't necessarily thinking about dating that week, sometimes across more than one city, and building enough trust with them to have a real conversation before anyone's introduced to anyone. That kind of outreach takes longer than working within a pool where the right people are easy to find and already looking, and a thorough search takes that time on purpose rather than treating it as a problem to solve.
This timeline is discussed from the very first conversation we have with you. We talk through what a search is likely to involve during the consultation itself, so there's a clear understanding from the start of what kind of pool we're working with and what pace that realistically means, rather than someone finding out much later on that their search looks different from what they expected going in at the start.

Ready to Talk Through What Your Search Would Look Like?
Every search is different, and the only way to know yours is to walk through it together. Let's talk.
FAQs
Does a longer search mean someone's expectations are unrealistic?
No. A longer timeline usually reflects a smaller pool based on location or specific, legitimate criteria, not anything unreasonable about what a client is looking for.
What makes one search take longer than another?
Location, life stage, and how specific someone's criteria are all affect the size of the pool we're working from, which directly affects how long a search takes.
Should someone loosen their criteria to speed things up?
That's a personal decision, and we never push clients to abandon what matters most to them just to shorten a timeline. Our job is to work within what a client actually wants, not talk them out of it.
Does a smaller city mean a longer search?
Often, yes, though it depends on the specific criteria involved. A smaller local pool combined with very specific preferences usually means more outreach across a wider area.
